Perikatan not just targeting Malay voters in Kuala Kubu Baharu: Radzi

Bersatu man says coalition aims to appeal to all voters regardless of race, though data shows Malays form the bedrock of their support base

KUALA KUBU BAHARU – Bersatu vice president Datuk Mohd Radzi Jidin has rubbished claims that Perikatan Nasional (PN) is solely banking on the votes from Malay constituents for the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

PN, he said, aims to appeal to all voters regardless of race, though he acknowledged that Malay communities tend to show more support for the coalition, according to data.

“In the context of the by-election, we do not consider race. Our focus is on those who are participating in the voting process, and we hope to earn their support and votes.

“Data indicates that Malay voters are leaning towards supporting PN. By encouraging their participation, we aim to bolster our votes,” he told reporters during a ceramah in Batang Kali yesterday.

Radzi also called on voters in the constituency to cast their ballots to ensure PN’s victory in the poll.

Meanwhile, the Putrajaya MP also rebutted a statement by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, where the latter pointed out that PAS, a component party of PN, was absent on nomination day last Saturday.

He said PAS had an Aidilfitri open house programme in Perlis, which was already planned earlier.

Radzi added that many PAS members have already come to Kuala Kubu Baharu to assist in campaigning efforts and will mobilise their machinery ahead of the poll on May 11.

PN fielded “local boy” Khairul Azhari Saut to contest for the state seat, which was vacated following the death of DAP assemblywoman Lee Kee Hiong last month due to ovarian cancer.

Khairul will see a four-cornered fight against DAP’s Pang Sock Tao, who is contesting under the Pakatan Harapan ticket, as well as Rafidah Zainudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Nyau Ke Xin (independent). – April 29, 2024
