I’m no proxy for any party: Kuala Kubu Baharu independent candidate

Nyau Ke Xin denies having affiliations with political entities and fully funded her campaign herself with encouragement from family, friends

KUALA KUBU BAHARU – Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin refuted allegations of being a proxy for any party and asserted that she financed her campaign entirely from her personal fund.

The 27-year-old Nyau, who is also known as Eris, told Scoop that she had no prior affiliation with any political party before her candidature and that this marks her debut in politics.

Hailing from Sabak Bernam, Selangor, Nyau said that her family and friends have been encouraging her to run for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state assembly seat.

“I joined (the by-election) using my own savings. (I’m) not sponsored by any party.

“(In fact), I am not a member of any political party. I have never joined, nor am I inclined towards any particular party. I am more comfortable running as an independent candidate,” she said.

Nyau, who holds a Human Resources Management bachelor’s degree from the International University of Malaya-Wales, said that she is aware of the challenges that come with the candidacy.

“I am aware of the challenges ahead, especially gaining votes as a new and independent candidate. It’s a huge challenge for me, but I will try my best and do as much as I can (to gain the locals’ trust) because anything can happen in an election,” she said.

She also said that one of her focuses in Kuala Kubu Baharu is to develop the younger generation through education and discovering new talent in sports.

“(My) focus will be on sports and other health-related activities since there are many facilities (for the two) here. I also aim to cultivate new talents in sports and music.”

She added that she also wanted to use the by-election as a platform to shed light on the rakyat’s struggle and grievances, especially when it comes to current living costs.

“The economy is still unstable. The price of goods and cost of living have increased,” she said.

“So, this will be a part of my campaign elements when I meet the voters here. I hope they can put their trust and confidence in me,” she said, adding that she will unveil her manifesto soon.

Polling day is scheduled for May 11, with early voting on May 7.

The election is seeing a four-cornered fight between Pang (Pakatan Harapan), Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), and Nyau. – April 28, 2024
