Pang remains unruffled as DAP, PAS lock horns over vernacular schooling

DAP's Teo Nie Ching accuses PAS of being unsupportive of vernacular education, citing instances of PAS members sending their children to Chinese schools

2:29 PM MYT

KUALA KUBU BAHARU – Despite calls for mature politics, the campaign rhetoric here remains tawdry, with DAP and PAS head-butting over the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate’s vernacular education.

While PH’s Pang Sock Tao appears to stay above the fray, DAP national publicity secretary Teo Nie Ching in turn accused PAS of not being supportive of vernacular education and said that other PAS representatives also send their children to Chinese schools.

“During a Dewan Rakyat sitting, PAS had an MP who admitted to sending their children to a SJKC (Chinese primary school).

“PAS also has an Adun (assemblyman) who studied at SJKC. I do not see why this has become an issue. This only shows that PAS is still against vernacular schools.

“PAS cannot accept the choice of the parents. So, do the Kuala Kubu Baharu voters want to support a PN candidate?” she told reporters during a walkabout with Pang around town here today.

Meanwhile, Pang said she does not take personal attacks to heart but rather focuses on what she can do to help the locals here if she is elected.

“I want to focus on what I can offer. Personal attacks are irrelevant for the people here.

“As for the criticism that I’m an outsider, I will stay here to provide the people with the best service.”

Yesterday, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari commented on Pang’s education but later apologised for revealing she received vernacular education.

Pang shared her UPSR and SPM achievements on Facebook as well as studied at SJK(C) On Pong, Ampang, and SM Chung Hua in Port Dickson. – April 30, 2024
