Perlis MB Shukri Ramli released after eight-hour MACC grilling

Anti-graft agency to issue statement on matter soon

KUALA LUMPUR – Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli has been released by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) after being grilled for eight hours today.

This has been confirmed by MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki to Scoop.

“I confirm that he (Perlis menteri besar) has been released.”

It is believed that he is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 on allegations of power abuse involving infrastructure projects, including repair, maintenance, supply and services in Perlis since 2022.

The graft busters’ corporate communications department will be issuing a statement soon.

Despite claims made on Shukri’s Facebook page, a source said the PAS leader was still at the MACC headquarters in the afternoon.

He was detained at the MACC in Putrajaya at 11am today.

Shukri’s Facebook page administrator claimed at 1.08pm that the menteri besar had not been detained by the MACC and was allowed to go home.

Nearly an hour later, it was again posted on his Facebook page that he finished giving his statement to the graft busters.

“Don’t spread fake news. I’ll continue to give my cooperation to the MACC and its investigation. Nothing to worry about. Thank you for your prayers.”

Earlier, MACC chief Azam’s statement said the state PAS chief was present at the agency’s headquarters and was called to assist in the ongoing investigation into his son involving alleged false claims.

Azam added that the MACC had started an investigation into the menteri besar for alleged abuse of power. 

Previously, Shukri’s son was remanded to facilitate investigations in relation to document forgery and false claim submissions totalling RM600,000 over the past two years. – April 30, 2024
