HULU SELANGOR – Two days after brushing off a social media post alleging his borrowings from loan sharks, Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Khairul Azhari Saut denied them and said he was being slandered.

The candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election admitted he had debts from business operations, but he did not owe any money to loan sharks.

“This is an evil slander like what happened to me at the nomination of candidates last week. I was attacked when a reporter asked me about my academic credentials. It’s not that I don’t want to comment but it wasn’t the time and I’m not lying.

“I have my own business and I think all business people have debts.

“I also have house and car debts; I won’t say I don’t have debts. The important thing is my debts are not with ‘ah longs’,” Khairul Azhar told reporters today after attending an event in Batang Kali, here.

The event to mobilise PN women members to campaign in the by-election was also attended by PN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and women’s wing leader Datuk Seri Rina Harun.

Khairul Azhari, 54, also considered such questions about his debts as “personal attacks by irresponsible parties.

Two days ago, he opted to keep mum when asked about his alleged debt of RM37,363 with loan sharks.

The Hulu Selangor Bersatu acting division chief had also been questioned by social media users and the press earlier over his education qualifications and had declined to answer, leaving Selangor PN chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali to answer for him instead.

Khairul Azhari’s main rival in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election on May 11 is unity government candidate Pang Sock Tao, 31. Two other candidates, from Parti Rakyat Malaysia and one independent, make the by-election a four-way fight. – May 4, 2024
