Peaceful election campaign in Kuala Kubu Baharu thus far, says Saifuddin

Home Minister assures police have deployed adequate reinforcement, supporting their commitment to protecting voter safety

9:07 AM MYT

KUALA KUBU BAHARU – There have been no alarming police reports throughout the election campaign here so far, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Without divulging the specific figure, he said police have deployed a reasonable amount of reinforcement, bolstering their commitment to maintaining voter safety.

“We only had one case involving Umno and DAP’s combined logos, which became the basis of an investigation by the police. Otherwise, we have no reports considered alarming. That is the result of continuous monitoring.

“The police’s commitment will continue until polling day to ensure Kuala Kubu Baharu voters can cast their ballots peacefully and without worry,” he told reporters at a Pakatan Harapan (PH) ceramah session at Batang Kali last night.

This followed a recent meeting between his ministry and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

Polling day for the Kuala Kubu Baharu seat is set for Saturday (May 11).

The seat was vacated following the death of assemblywoman Lee Kee Hiong in March due to cancer. She defended the seat for PH-DAP since winning in 2013.

Contenders for the seat include PH’s Pang Sock Tao, Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), and Nyau Ke Xin (independent). – May 9, 2024
