Seeing double in Kuala Kubu Baharu: Pang and twin greet voting twins

DAP hopeful in high spirits as voters in Selangor state seat head to polls

10:31 AM MYT

KUALA KUBU BAHARU – Voters at SJK(C) Khing Ming for the by-election here did a double take as unity government candidate Pang Sock Tao and her twin sister, Pang Sock Ying, came for a quick visit on the morning of polling day today.

The two Pangs stumbled upon another pair of twins – Chan Sher Er and Chan Sher Ni, 25, – who are second-time voters.

The Chans came at 8.45am to cast their ballots before attending to other errands.

In unison, they said they were excited about voting and assured that no common twin-related errors – such as mixing up their identity cards – had occurred.

Pang, meanwhile, said she was in high spirits today despite having only five hours of sleep and no breakfast.

“I hope all voters here can carry out their duties as citizens, and I call on voters to cast their ballots early due to uncertain weather,” she said.

In keeping with Election Commission rules against the display of any party logo inside polling centres, Pang, of DAP-Pakatan Harapan (PH), wore a plain white shirt on her visits to polling centres this morning.

Another pair who came to vote today were best friends Chin Choon Kew, 90, and Yuen Yoon, 89, who own houses near each other and have always voted together in previous elections.

“(We woke up) at 6am (to come here). Our children (sent us),” they said when met by the media, adding that they had never missed voting in an election before.

Pang, 31, and former press secretary to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, is contesting against Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Nyau Ke Xin (independent).

The Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat was vacated following the death of assemblywoman Lee Kee Hiong in March due to cancer. She had defended the seat for PH-DAP since winning it in 2013. – May 11, 2024
