Police to issue photofit for suspect in acid attack on footballer Faisal Halim

Two individuals already in police custody, one of whom has slew of past criminal records

KUALA LUMPUR – Police are creating a photofit of a suspect involved in the acid attack on national footballer Faisal Halim at a shopping centre in Petaling Jaya last week.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the sketch process was carried out today based on witness statements as well as CCTV footage from the scene.

“Today we will make a photofit and from there we will probably gather information.

“We will study the information that can be gathered using the photofit, and from fingerprinting (at the scene of the attack),” Bernama reported him saying at the Autism Day Celebration at the Royal Malaysia Police Autism Centre here today.

Police have so far arrested two suspects, one of whom has a rap sheet of seven prior criminal offences. Police on Thursday denied arresting a third suspect.

To date, police have recorded statements from more than 12 individuals, including Faisal, regarding the acid attack.

Among those who have been interviewed are family members, Faisal’s brother-in-law, a security guard and a doctor.

On May 5, Faisal suffered fourth-degree burns after being splashed with acid by an unknown individual while on a family outing at a shopping centre in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya, at about 5pm.

The Selangor FC player has had two surgeries so far, with more set to come as his injuries from the acid are on different parts of his body. – May 11, 2024
