KUALA LUMPUR – The Bangladesh Coast Guard have recovered the body of a Malaysian crew member who allegedly fell from a container vessel while working on the deck on May 8.
Bangladesh Coast Guard found the body at the outer anchorage of the Chattogram port at 4pm yesterday and informed about the discovery in a Facebook post around 10pm last night.
According to the Bangladeshi newspaper, The Daily Star, the victim, 31-year-old Muhammad Isa Muhammad Veeramohan, was an ordinary seaman of a Malaysian-flagged container ship, MTT Sapangar.
The coast guard patrol personnel handed the body over to a local police station where Isa was identified as the missing seaman.
The body of Muhammad Isa is now at the Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy, the daily quoted the Chittagong Port Authority.
It is believed that Muhammad Isa had allegedly fallen off the ship and into the Bay when he was working on the deck at around 8.15 am on May 8 – a day after the ship had arrived from Singapore.
Coast guard media officer Shuaib Bikash reportedly said that a rescue operation had been immediately launched, but efforts to recover the crew member were disrupted due to unfavourable weather conditions. – May 11, 2024
