KUALA LUMPUR – Netizens who are still angry over the insensitive “Type C” comments made by Darsa Fried Chicken (DFC) on its Facebook page have continued to hit out at the homegrown brand despite its recent apology.

Social media influencer Jason Chen, known as @scaredtodie on TikTok, posted a video of him and his partner trying a DFC meal while saying one does not need training to not be racist.

“Can you imagine sitting in a meeting with a PowerPoint (saying) ‘Bab 1: Macam mana nak elak jadi R-word?’ (How do you prevent being racist?) You do not need training. You just need to be a basic human being.”

As for DFC transferring the offending staffer to another department, Chen said it was a “slap on a wrist” as “a rotten apple affected the whole basket,” because she was not fired for her mistakes.

Despite his criticism, his review of the fried chicken was objective and he gave it a 6.8 out of 10 rating.

Meanwhile, property investment coach Tony Yap said in a TikTok video that being racist and making racial comments should be a thing of the past.

He added that since it was the staffer who made a mistake, the management should not be blamed entirely.

In addition, some netizens went down the funny route by sharing “Type C” memes and jokes.

On Friday, DFC’s chief executive Muhammad Faiz Zuhdi Azahar apologised for the comment that offended the Chinese community and said it did not reflect the brand’s values.

He also said the staffer was not fired but transferred to another department.

DFC was named after its owner, Yayasan Darul Sajidin, and was founded by religious teacher Muhd Zainul Asri Mohd Romli.

Zainul said the chain was launched to raise money for the Islamic schools that are being run by the foundation. – May 12, 2024
