KUALA LUMPUR – The Selangor Water Management Board (Luas) has taken proactive steps to install up to six additional activated carbon bags to improve odour control following an oil spill in Kota Seriemas, Negri Sembilan, that flowed into Sg Labu in Sepang yesterday.

In a Facebook post today, Luas confirmed ongoing monitoring of Sg Labu after discovering oil traces near the water treatment plant intake.

It said that at 11.30pm yesterday, the team recorded no new oil readings at the location.

“Proactive measures have been implemented, including the addition of six bags of activated carbon at the designated drain site in the Negri Sembilan area, aimed at increasing odour elimination efforts.

“Luas will continue to monitor the situation closely on the ground,” it added.

Yesterday, it was reported that the incident began with an oil spill on the road in Kota Seriemas, Negri Sembilan.

The spilled oil then flowed into the nearby river, causing contamination.

Oil traces were later discovered near the intake of the Sg Labu Water Treatment Plant, prompting the activation of a yellow code in accordance with the emergency manual for water source pollution at 7.45am – May 13, 2024
