Police hunting down two more suspects in secret society-linked murder

Authorities say two men were earlier detained, one fined for being member of an unlawful society, the other released due to insufficient evidence

SHAH ALAM – The death of a trader who was attacked by a group of men in Taman Jaya, Kapar, recently is believed to be a case involving a secret society, said Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan. 

Hussein said that police are currently tracking down two more individuals linked to the 38-year-old local man’s death. 

“We have identified and are looking for two more suspects who can aid our investigation, (as) we believe they were involved in the incident,” Hussein told a press conference at the Selangor district police headquarters here today. 

“The case can be said to be one involving a secret society,” he added, noting that police are working at determining whether the suspects are still in the country or have fled overseas. 

On April 29, Klang Utara district police chief S. Vijaya Rao said that police had detained two men in the Kapar area in relation to the crime. 

One of the suspects was released due to insufficient evidence, while the other was fined RM1,000 after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 43 of the Societies Act 1966 on membership in an unlawful society. 

The victim’s body was discovered in his residence and is believed to have been assaulted by a group of four men armed with parang and taser guns. He then sustained injuries to his head, legs, shoulders and right hand. 

Police previously said in a statement that the intruders were caught on CCTV entering the victim’s home.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

In a separate case involving a luggage bag containing over RM500,000 in cash, Hussein said the case is still unresolved as the person who claimed to be the owner failed to prove the source of the funds.

As such, Hussein said that police will have to refer the case to Bukit Aman for their consideration before the investigation paper is submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers. 

“The individual who came to claim the luggage and the cash was unable to provide solid evidence on the source of the funds. 

“About eight or nine statements have been recorded from eyewitnesses for the case,” he added, noting that the individual in question was the only person who attempted to claim the cash. 

Previously, Hussein said a company director had claimed ownership of the cash-filled suitcase found at a Damansara shopping centre car park on March 21. – May 15, 2024
