KUALA LUMPUR – The heartbroken sister of constable Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, who was killed by a lone assailant at the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor Bahru early this morning, expressed her shock at his passing.

In an Instagram post, Nur Azza Assyaqiren, also known as Entan, said her brother – whom she endearingly addressed as Fahmi, Ami or Mi – was a good brother.

“Ami, you make us sad. Why did you have to go? Al-Fatihah. Thank you for being a good boy,” she said.

She said her brother’s name was all over the news today and struggled to accept that he was gone.

“There is a story about you everywhere, Mi. Oh god, we are not strong, Mi.

“God, please strengthen us as a family to face this test. Please pray for my late brother,” Entan said

Azza Fahmi and another constable, Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, died in the attack at 2.54am today. Both of them had served less than two years in the police force.

Another police officer, Mohd Hanif Roslan, was also shot but survived and is receiving treatment in hospital.

The suspect, who was shot dead by the surviving officer, was armed with a machete.

Meanwhile, Syafiq’s father, Ahmad Said Md Piah, 65, told Bernama that “people were just telling tales” when news started to spread that his son had been killed in an attack on the police station.

“I thought people were making up stories or that it was some scam. But then police called me to inform me about the incident…I couldn’t believe it when they said Syafiq was shot. I felt they had to be wrong,” he said at his home in Kuantan.

Ahmad Said, who is a retired army officer, said it was Syafiq’s dream to join the police force and work in forensics.

Police have linked the attack on the Ulu Tiram police station early this morning to terror group Jemaah Islamiyah (JI).

Five family members of the suspect have been arrested, along with two university students whom police believe could have acted as decoys – as they arrived at the police station to lodge a police report just before the assailant entered.

Since this morning, police have also identified more than 20 JI members in Johor

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain also confirmed the suspect who attacked the police station was a member of the terrorist group JI. – May 17, 2024
