KUANTAN – The house of constable Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, in Taman Seri Mahkota Jaya, Gambang, was the focus of many people, including acquaintances and members of the Royal Malaysian Police, who came to pay their respects to the deceased’s family.

The compound of Syafiq’s residence has been in the spotlight since early this morning, when the remains of the deceased from the Tunku Laksamana Abdul Jalil Mosque of the Johor police contingent headquarters are expected to be brought back to his home before being buried at Batu 8 Gambang Islamic Cemetery this afternoon.

The parents of the deceased, Ahmad Said Md Piah, 65, and Aini Mohd Shariff, 57, appeared calm in receiving guests and were occasionally seen wiping away tears as they were affected by the departure of their seventh of eight children.

Meanwhile, Pahang Menteri Besar Special Officer (Islamic Affairs) Yunan Abdul Samad, who represented Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, was also present to hand over a donation of RM8,000 to Said.

Yunan, when met, said Wan Rosdy expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and hoped they would persevere in the face of the tribulations over the loss of a loved one.

In the incident at 2.45am yesterday, Syafiq and colleague constable Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, died in an attack at Ulu Tiram police station, Johor, after being attacked by a masked man, while another member, corporal Mohd Hasif Roslan, who was shot, was reported to be stable after being treated at Sultan Ismail Hospital.

Police confirmed that a 21-year-old male suspect, who was shot dead in the incident, was believed to be a member of Jemaah Islamiyah. – May 18, 2024
