KUALA LUMPUR – Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has become the latest victim in a series of threats targeting DAP lawmakers after discovering a handwritten death threat and bullets in her mailbox yesterday.

Kok shared her distressing find on social media platform X, revealing that she discovered the threatening note and bullets while retrieving her mail.

The note, written in red ink, read, “C*** Cina! Lu akan mati! Tunggu! (Damned Chinese! You will die! Wait!).” Two bullets accompanied the menacing message.

The DAP vice-chairman added that she has lodged a police report on the matter, following which officers have come over to the mailbox area in her condominium to inspect the scene.

“I’m confused and don’t understand why I’ve received the bullets and a letter containing such threats,” she said in a Facebook post.

This incident follows an attack on January 10, when a molotov cocktail was thrown at the home of DAP lawmaker Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham in Ayer Tawar, Perak.

The incident caused significant damage to his property and three vehicles.

The attack on Ngeh occurred after he made a controversial suggestion to include a non-Muslim constitutional law expert and a representative from the Malaysian Bar in a special committee on shariah laws.

Despite Ngeh’s subsequent apology and DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke’s clarification that the proposal was a “mistake,” tensions remained high.

Ngeh has accused the opposition of distorting his statement, which he believes incited hatred towards him, particularly within the Muslim community.

Further adding to the pattern of threats, on March 7, Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming’s mother received anonymous threatening letters at her home in Ayer Tawar.

The letters warned Nga, who is also the housing and local government minister, not to “challenge Islam”.

Nga has previously been at the centre of controversies over statements perceived to touch on racial and religious sensitivities.

To date, no individuals have been charged in connection with these threats. – May 19, 2024
