KUALA LUMPUR – DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has condemned the death threat against the party’s vice-chairperson, Teresa Kok, saying it was “unacceptable”.

He said violence cannot be accepted in Malaysian society, especially when dealing with different opinions in politics.

“The entire DAP leadership stands in solidarity with her in the face of this threat.

“I also thank the police for acting quickly after receiving the police report. I am confident that the police will investigate in detail and arrest the responsible party in the criminal case,” Loke said in a Facebook post today.

Loke’s condemnation also came after government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil slammed the threat made against the Seputeh MP, emphasising the importance of respecting lawmakers as representatives of the people.

“Do not threaten MPs because they are the voice of the people. I condemn actions like this, it is quite shameful,” he told a press conference today.

The Communications Minister underscored that such incidents should not occur against any lawmakers, regardless of their political affiliation.

Earlier, Kok revealed that she discovered the threatening note and bullets while retrieving her mail yesterday.

The note, written in red ink, read, “C*** Cina! Lu akan mati! Tunggu! (Damned Chinese! You will die! Wait!).” Two bullets accompanied the message.

Kok added that she has lodged a police report on the matter, following which officers have come over to the mailbox area in her condominium to inspect the scene.

“I’m confused and don’t understand why I’ve received the bullets and a letter containing such threats,” she said in a Facebook post. – May 19, 2024
