KUALA LUMPUR — The Kelana Jaya LRT line is experiencing delays again, just as commuters are making the morning rush to work.

RapidKL announced on X at 7.21am that train services on the Kelana Jaya LRT line are experiencing delays and making longer stops at platforms, due to a switch issue.

Trains are moving slower and have to be driven manually between the Kelana Jaya and Taman Bahagia stations.

“Trains are (also) stopping longer at platforms. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

In a second post, RapidKL said repair work on the switch issue is underway. However, trains will still be driven manually between Kelana Jaya and Taman Bahagia.

X users vented in their replies, complaining about being late to work and asking for an estimate of delays. Some also asked Rapid KL to start suggest alternative travel routes.

Delays appear to have started about an hour even before RapidKL posted its announcement, as X user @ZillaYusof replied that she had already taken her one hour for her train to move from Alam Megah to Taipan, where her train had stopped.

It also appears that air-conditioning on trains may have been turned off.

X user @hcfoo asked for air-conditioning to be turned on a particular train, saying the closed environment was stuffy and people are unable to breathe comfortably due to the packed train.

RapidKL also said in a reply to a query on X that a letter from the rail operator confirming service disruption could be obtained from ticketing counters at LRT stations.

This was in reply to @idzanar who asked if the rail operator would provide a letter to her employer to explain her late arrival at work.

“Guaranteed that I will be late to work. What steps can I take to get a letter stating the reason for delay?” @idzanar had asked.

Other users reported a 10-minute stop at each station, with some doing the math for all the remaining stations before their final destination and concluding that they should have worked from home instead.

At 9.24am, another announcement was made that the switch problem had been resolved. RapidKL also apologised for the inconvenience caused to commuters. — May 23, 2024
