KUCHING – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said numerous names have been proposed for the appointment of the next Dewan Negara president following the death of Datuk Mutang Tagal on May 10.

According to Bernama, Anwar said that while a list of candidates exists, discussions regarding them have yet to take place.

When asked about the number of names put forward, he simply responded: “Many.”

“…we just presented the names for discussions,” he told reporters after a meeting with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg here today.

During the meeting, Abang Johari and other senior state leaders discussed policy decisions to enhance their implementation and ensure strong relations between federal and Sarawak governments.

Earlier, Anwar officiated the National Journalists’ Day (Hawana) 2024 celebration, themed “Etika Teras Kewartawanan Mapan.”

The event was attended by about 1,000 media practitioners from Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, Timor Leste, China, South Korea, Qatar, Kuwait, and France.

Hawana 2024, the largest gathering of Malaysian journalists, is organised by the Communications Ministry in collaboration with the Sarawak government, with Bernama as the implementing agency. – May 27, 2024
