Two top CCID cops claim trial to taking RM1.25 mil in bribes to close firearms probe

Senior officers accused of graft over investigation relating to Israeli’s weapons purchase

KUALA LUMPUR – Two senior Bukit Aman police officers pleaded not guilty to bribery charges for allegedly accepting RM1.25 million to help close the investigation into a businessman relating to the purchase of firearms by an Israeli citizen.

The commercial crime investigation department’s forensic accounting investigation chief assistant director Chin Kiam Kong, 54, and the unit’s head of cryptocurrency Suhairon Abdullah, 42, had the charges read to them before sessions court judge Azura Alwi.

According to the charge, the duo were accused of taking RM1 million in cash from Khoo Zixian, 28, as inducement to close a criminal case.

The offence allegedly took place at the forensic account/cryptocurrency department at the CCID office in Menara KPJ here, between 12pm and 1pm on April 8, as well as at the building’s carpark at 4.30pm of the same day.

They are charged under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine of at least five times the value of the gratification, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

In the same court, Chin also claimed trial to two charges for accepting RM250,000 in bribes from Khoo.

He was accused of committing the offence at the CCID office at 12.30pm, April 18, and the carpark, between 10.30am and 1pm the following day. 

Bail has been set at RM40,000 and case mention is fixed on July 30. – May 28, 2024
