Two more areas in KL hit by fallen trees after today’s storm

KUALA LUMPUR – The Fire and Rescue Department seems to have its hands full following the downpour today, as more trees have fallen in two areas in the capital.

In a brief statement, the Kuala Lumpur division’s operations centre said it received two emergency calls over fallen trees.

An incident at Jalan Kiara 1, Mont Kiara, resulted in a traffic disruption after a fallen tree had blocked a lane. 

Additionally, the department said a fallen tree near the Sentul Timur LRT station had partially crashed onto the roof of a home and damaged several electrical wires. 

No victim or damage to vehicles were reported in both incidents.

Teams from the Sri Hartamas and Sentul divisions were deployed to Mont Kiara and Sentul, respectively.

Cases of fallen trees have recently become more prevalent, such as an incident earlier today near Bulatan Pahang here, resulting in a kilometre-long traffic jam.

Following recurring incidents of tree uprooting in the capital, Federal Territories Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa ordered Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to remove high-risk trees in the area.

DBKL said it had been taking measures to identify aged and high-risk trees since 2019. – June 1, 2024
