Over 23,000 book vouchers redeemed by students via Delima app: Education Ministry

The validity of redeeming and using the vouchers runs from May 31 until Dec 31 this year

PUTRAJAYA – More than 23,000 book vouchers have been successfully redeemed by students using the Delima app and Digital Book City to date, according to the Education Ministry.

In a statement, the ministry said that the validity period for redeeming and using the book vouchers for students in educational institutions under the ministry is from May 31 to December 31 this year.

“Therefore, students are advised not to worry as they have sufficient time to redeem their book vouchers and use them to obtain the best reading materials,” the statement read, as quoted by Bernama.

The ministry added that the book voucher initiative for students in all institutions under its purview, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has received an overwhelming response since it began on May 31.

This book voucher initiative aligns with the government’s aim to nurture a knowledgeable, critically thinking, and visionary generation.

The move also aims to cultivate a love for knowledge and books, promoting a reading culture.

On May 30, the prime minister announced the distribution of RM50 and RM100 book vouchers to students, targeting those in standard four and above, secondary school students, tertiary level students, and teacher education institutes.

Yesterday, the Higher Education Ministry said the application for e-book vouchers in the first phase closed after 50,000 vouchers were redeemed within eight hours of opening.

The ministry said the first phase of distribution is part of their effort to support the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (PBAKL 2024) by purchasing books via the BookCapital platform, managed by Book City Corporation, a co-organiser of PBAKL 2024.

“The remaining book vouchers will be distributed in the next phase, with the mechanism to be announced later,” according to a post on the ministry’s official Facebook page.

The book voucher initiative will benefit over 1.2 million students of higher education institutions. – June 2, 2024
