Kelana Jaya church crash: cops confirm no sabotage, malice involved

PJ police chief warned public against speculating which could cause public anxiety, says case investigated under reckless and dangerous driving

11:58 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – There were no elements of sabotage or malice involved in the vehicle incident at the church compound in Kelana Jaya last Friday night, said police.

In a statement, Petaling Jaya deputy police chief M. Hussin Sollehuddin Zolkifly said the investigation is still ongoing, and they are seeking witnesses to provide statements.

He said police will submit the blood sample of the driver involved in the accident to its chemistry department for an alcohol and drug test.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving, Hussin said.

Police also urged the public to refrain from speculation which could cause public anxiety and reminded road users to always comply with traffic laws to avoid accidents.

Last Friday, a man in his 30s drove through the gates of St Ignatius Church in Kelana Jaya, damaging several chairs and tables in the church’s parking lot.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

The man explained that he was travelling from Subang Jaya to Kelana Jaya when he took a wrong turn and lost control of his vehicle at 11.46pm.

Hussin reported that the driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for further treatment.

Petaling Jaya police are calling for witnesses to assist with the investigation. Anyone with information can contact the police headquarters’ traffic investigating officer Muhammad Hisyam Azih (017-7378704), or report to any nearby police station. – June 3, 2024
