KUALA LUMPUR – Three individuals, including Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin’s caregiver, have been summoned by police to assist with the investigation into the autistic child’s murder.
This was confirmed by Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan in a brief statement to the media.
Besides the caregiver, two family members have also been called to the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters, he said.
“This is to complete the investigation. Whether more individuals will be called to assist in the investigation depends on the ongoing interrogations,” he said.
He said that the three individuals were only called in for questioning.
“They were not arrested, just summoned for their statement,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mahmud Abdul Jumaat, the lawyer representing Zayn Rayyan’s parents, told Scoop that they have been informed about the matter as well.
The child’s parents were remanded for seven days at the Petaling Jaya magistrates’ court to assist in the investigation into the murder of the autistic child, who was found dead near Idaman Apartment in Damansara Damai on December 6, last year.
They were remanded under Section 302 of the Penal Code to assist the police in their investigation of the case.
Yesterday, Hussein said that the police seized the mobile phones of the victim’s parents to aid in the investigation.
He also advised all parties to give the police space to conduct their investigation.
“It is still too early to provide any comment. The arrest of the victim’s parents is to assist in the investigation. The public is advised not to make any comment or speculation until the investigation is completed,” he said.
On December 5 last year, Zayn Rayyan, 6, was reported missing in Damansara Damai, Selangor, before being found dead near a stream, about 200m from his home block at Idaman Apartment the following day.
The child is believed to have been murdered, as the post-mortem results showed defensive injuries on his neck and body. – June 3, 2024
