US president’s son, Hunter Biden, guilty on all counts in gun trial

Verdict includes charges of lying about drug use and illegal possession of firearm

WASHINGTON – A jury has found United States President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, guilty on all three charges of breaking laws on a gun purchase.

The verdict handed down by a federal jury yesterday convicted him on two counts of lying about his drug use in a federal background check form when buying a gun and for possessing a gun while using or being addicted to illegal drugs.

The purchase was made in October 2018, before his father became president.

During the trial, key witnesses who testified about his drug use were his ex-wife and a former girlfriend.

The court is to decide on sentencing on another date. Under present laws, Hunter, 54, could face up to 25 years in prison. He is, however, a first-time offender and could receive a lesser sentence.

The verdict marks the first time an immediate family member of a sitting US president has been found guilty of a crime, CNN noted. – June 12, 2024
