Sg Bakap poll: is Madani govt using ‘ancient’ political moves, asks PAS VP

Datuk Idris Ahmad posts on Facebook asking whether is it coincidencental that ministers, government agencies actively running programmes prior to upcoming by-election

9:05 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – PAS vice president Datuk Idris Ahmad has some scathing words for the federal government, saying it must be a coincidence to hold programmes at Sg Bakap ahead of the by-election.

“Ministers and government agencies are actively running programmes in the state constituency.  As we know the Madani government will not repeat “ancient” political moves by Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

“The previous BN and PN governments also did the same but were labelled as chaotic and did not reflect true Madani principles – unlike the true Madani government, which would not misused government machinery for their own benefit,” he said in a Facebook post today.

In a tongue-in-cheek tone, Idris added that all government projects approved in the run-up to the by-election are in compliance.

Last week, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming came under fire for announcing RM18 million for various projects in Seberang Perai under the Sentuhan Kasih programme.

Nomination day for the Sg Bakap by-election is on Saturday, while early voting on July 2 and polling day on July 6.

So far, PN is looking to defend the seat by fielding Abidin Ismail of PAS, who is the aide to the late incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) is putting up former Aminuddin Baki Institute northern branch director Joohari Ariffin of PKR.

The seat fell vacant when Nor Zamri died of stomach inflammation on May 24. – June 20, 2024
