PAS sec-gen stresses that the party does not change their promises or stance unlike unity government parties

11:18 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – PAS remains steadfast in its commitment to Perikatan Nasional (PN), despite rumours of negotiations to join the unity government, said PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

Takiyuddin dismissed Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil’s statement that “discussions were ongoing” between the government and the opposition, further accusing the latter of confusing the people and portraying PAS in a negative light.

“PAS remains with the coalition and cooperation of PN,” he said in a statement today.

“It must also be stressed that PAS is not like parties within the government coalition, which always change their promises and stance before and after elections and at any other time when in a pinch.”

Takiyuddin pointed out that the same statement was made by PAS’ deputy president, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, and Ulama chief, Datuk Ahmad Yahaya.

He also said the “negotiations,” especially with the menteri besar of PAS-led states, were merely regular discussions relating to state administrative matters.

In light of the upcoming Sg Bakap poll, Takiyuddin urged PN members and supporters against being trapped by “cheap politics and publicity” ostensibly used by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leader.

Previously, Fahmi said multiple discussions were conducted about a coalition between the unity government and the opposition.

“(There are) a lot of discussions,” he briefly said when asked by the media, without elaborating further.

Subsequently, Tuan Ibrahim said the PAS would never support the government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He also lambasted Umno for allegedly kowtowing to PH by abandoning its “No Anwar, No DAP” stance before the 15th General Election. – June 23, 2024
