KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun has been appointed as the new Election Commission (EC) chairman, effective today.

In a statement earlier, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said that Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim had consented to the appointment.

Zuki said the former Rural and Regional Development Ministry secretary-general’s appointment was in line with Article 114(1) of the Federal Constitution.

He replaced Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, who retired on May 9. Abdul Ghani led the commission for four years.

60-year-old Ramlan has served in the public service for 28 years, working across several ministries and departments.

He holds a master’s degree in land resource management from Universiti Putra Malaysia and a bachelor’s degree in housing and building planning from Universiti Sains Malaysia.

He also has a diploma in public administration from the National Institute of Public Administration. – June 26, 2024
