KLIA shooting case: personal bodyguard holds no grudge, returns to work

He is grateful to make progress in recovery, to be back on duty, does not feel traumatised

9:00 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Muhammad Nur Hadith Zaini, 38, the personal bodyguard who took a bullet for his client in a shooting at the  Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on April 14, says he bears “no grudges” against the suspect, who was his client’s husband.

He has returned to work since last week, and is making progress in his recovery.

“So far, my health is good, alhamdulillah, and I have been back on duty since last week.

“I do not feel traumatised to return to duty because in bodyguard training or in security fields, there is always a risk. We have to always be alert to our surroundings.

“For now, I cannot perform strenuous or heavy tasks for six months to a year because I need to fully recover from internal injuries in the abdomen,” he said, having lost 30 kilograms following the incident.

Nur Hadith said he still needs to undergo blood tests at the Serdang Hospital for kidney monitoring, in addition to an appointment at Cyberjaya Hospital in November with a specialist.

He was shot at close range, about three to four metres away from the suspect, and was injured in the abdomen, requiring surgery.

In the April 14 incident, Nur Hadith was shot when the suspect, Hafizul Hawari, 38 fired shots at his wife Farah Cie, who is Nur Hadith’s client, at 1:15am.

Hafizul was arrested more than 24 hours later in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, and had reportedly planned to flee to Thailand and onward to Mecca.

He was charged at the Kota Bharu sessions court with illegally possessing firearms, possessing three MyKads belonging to other individuals, and with using a fake vehicle registration plate.

Separately, he was charged with attempted murder and voluntarily causing hurt in the Sepang sessions court.

Hafizul has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Case management for his attempted murder trial has been set for July 25, while August 11 is for case mention for the charges brought against him in Kota Bharu. – July 2, 2024
