Cops receive reports on six car break-ins, suspect still at large

Cheras police chief Ravindar Singh Sarban Singh requests for anyone who has information regarding incident to contact Cheras, KL Police Hotline

1:59 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Police are tracking individuals suspected of breaking the windows of six vehicles parked along the road at the Awan Besar Light Rail Transit (LRT) Station, Bukit Jalil, on July 1.

Cheras police chief Ravindar Singh Sarban Singh said that the police received six reports on the incident last Tuesday.

Investigations revealed that all six cars had been parked by their owners at 3pm on Monday, the day before.

Ravindar said investigations are currently being carried out under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

“The suspect, who remains at large, broke the car windows. The owner of these vehicles only discovered the damage the next day.

“The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code, and a detailed investigation is being carried out over this incident,” he said in a statement today.

Ravindar said that his party would not compromise with any individual who does not comply with the law, adding that strict action would be taken.

“If anyone has information regarding this incident, they can contact the Cheras Police Hotline at 03-9284 5050/5051, the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999, or any nearby police station,” he said.

Since yesterday, a video recording showing the windows of several cars being broken has gone viral.

The 47-second video was shared by an individual who advised people to be cautious when parking their cars for free in the area.

The cars were reportedly parked illegally on the side of the road. – July 5, 2024
