Man found unconscious after suspected stabbing by housemate in PJ

Police find suspect injured after believed escape attempt by jumping from fifth-floor flat

KUALA LUMPUR – A local man, who was believed to have been stabbed by his housemate, was found unconscious on a blood-spattered floor at a flat in Desa Mentari, Petaling Jaya today.

In a statement, Petaling Jaya police chief Shahrulnizam Ja’afar said police received a distress call via MERS 999 at 5.45am from a member of the public who had discovered the man in a dire condition.

The victim was found lying on the floor of a fifth-floor unit, while the suspect, alleged to have committed the stabbing, was discovered on the ground floor of the building.

“It is believed that the suspect attempted to escape by jumping from the kitchen window of the fifth-floor flat. He sustained a fractured back and injuries to his right rib,” Shahrulnizam said.

“Both the victim and the suspect were transported to a medical centre for treatment,” he added.

A medical examination by a team from Sg Buloh Hospital revealed the victim had sustained 11 stab wounds.

Police have confiscated a knife from the scene, which is believed to be the weapon used in the attack.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment, as well as a possible fine or whipping.

Shahrulnizam has urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Petaling Jaya police station at 03-7966-2222 to assist in the investigation. – July 17, 2024
