Man, woman charged for possessing IS materials in separate cases

No plea recorded from 57-year-old in PJ, 33-year-old in Penang as Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code is under high court’s jurisdiction

PETALING JAYA – A woman was charged at the sessions court here today on two charges of possessing materials related to Islamic State (IS) and supporting the terrorist group last month.

Fauziahanim Abdullah, 57, who is unemployed, nodded after the charges were read before judge Syahliza Warnoh but no plea was recorded as the case is under the high court’s jurisdiction.  

She is accused of possessing IS-related material on her mobile phone and a USB flash drive at a condominium unit in Persiaran Kinrara, Section 3, Puchong, at 9.02am on June 23. 

The charge, under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, carries a maximum imprisonment of seven years or a fine, and mandates the forfeiture of any such material, upon conviction.  

She also faces another charge of supporting the Daesh group through the Instagram account Aurora Millisaa @Hanee_bear_ at the E8 Counter Terrorism Division, Special Branch, Bukit Aman Police Headquarters here at 9.15am on June 28. 

This charge is framed under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum imprisonment of 40 years or a fine, and mandates the forfeiture of any such material, upon conviction.  

The court set September 20 for the next case mention. 

Deputy public prosecutor Rullizah Abdul Majid appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.

Meanwhile, in Butterworth, a restaurant worker was charged at the sessions court today for the possession of materials related to the same terrorist group last month.

Muhammad Zul Khairi Mohamad Nasir, 33, nodded after the charge was read before judge Noor Aini Yusof, but no plea was recorded as the case is under the high court’s jurisdiction. 

Muhammad Zul Khairi is accused of possessing materials related to IS on his mobile phone in Sg Dua here at 9.35am on June 23. 

He was charged under the same section as Fauziahanim.

Deputy public prosecutor Syafinas Shabudin appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented. 

The court transferred the case to the Kuala Lumpur High Court and scheduled August 19 for the next mention. 

Last month, a 35-year-old man was charged at the Kuala Lumper sessions court with three counts of supporting IS, including for being a member.

Muhammad Muzzamil Mohd Mohlis was also charged with supporting the group by using Facebook and Telegram and possessing materials related to it. – July 19, 2024
