KUALA LUMPUR – Two of the three women involved in a recent altercation in a supermarket parking lot in Penampang, Sabah, have been detained by police to assist with the investigation.

The duo were picked up by the police at two separate locations here yesterday.

District police chief Sammy Newton said the first arrest involved an 18-year-old seen in the clip assaulting the victim.

The second arrest involved a 25-year-old woman, who was the victim in the clip. She was arrested for not having valid identification documents, he said in a statement.

Newton also said that the Penampang police headquarters have deployed a team to locate the other suspect involved in the assault.

The motive behind the incident was the victim’s affair with the suspect’s husband, who remains at large.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing injury and Section 506 for criminal threats.

“The case is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for staying in the country without a valid pass or permit,” he added.

A two-minute and 16-second clip showing the victim being assaulted by two individuals in what is believed to be a supermarket parking lot has circulated widely on social media.

The video depicts the victim being slapped multiple times and having her hair pulled until she fell to the ground, after which the two women began to kick her. – July 21, 2024
