KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor police arrested a 32-year-old pisang goreng seller on Sunday for kidnapping two children in Jeram, Selangor, last Friday.

In a statement, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that police received a report about a missing eight-year-old girl in Taman Ikan Emas, Jeram, on July 19, and opened an investigation under Section 369 of the Penal Code for kidnapping a child under ten years old.

However, the two children were dropped off by the suspect at Taman Kelisa, Jeram, on the same day.

Police investigations found that the girl was taken by a local man in a black Perodua Bezza with an unknown registration number.

“Upon receiving information, the criminal investigation department of the Kuala Selangor district police headquarters traced and arrested the suspect at Jalan Pawang Jalil, Jeram, at 2.40am on July 21,” said Hussein.

Police completed the investigation papers and referred them to the Selangor public prosecutor’s office, which then instructed them to charge the suspect with two counts of kidnapping.

“The suspect will be charged at the Sg Besar magistrate court on July 25 at 9am. If found guilty, (the suspect) could face imprisonment of up to a maximum of seven years and a fine,” added Hussein.

This kidnapping case is the second one to hit the national headlines in recent days, following the kidnapping of six-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Hui in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, last Saturday.

Police eventually found Albertine, who was at a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor, with a 31-year-old local man, who was arrested for child abduction. – July 24, 2024
