KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu information committee member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, was arrested and remanded until tomorrow.

Speaking to Scoop, his lawyer, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, said the authorities had asked for four days of remand to assist in their investigation into Chegubard’s social media post that alleged corruption within the navy.

“However, the Putrajaya court magistrate had only allowed two days remand for the authorities… so we’ll have to wait and see how it will turn out tomorrow,” he said.

He added that Chegubard was arrested yesterday after going to the Putrajaya district police headquarters to file a report and hand over documents supporting his social media claims.

Rafique also said this was the third time Chegubard had been placed under police remand due to social media posts, and he was currently facing two criminal charges related to his remarks made on social media.

On July 22, Chegubard posted on his Facebook page, alleging that he received a confidential document on July 15, where he said the document was addressed to Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, the Malaysian Armed Forces chief, as well as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

He alleged that the document, which was signed by navy chief Adm Datuk Abdul Rahman Ayob, detailed complaints about a candidate to replace Rahman out of “favouritism”, as well as how the candidate was involved in corruption cases, including a RM45 million acquisition deal.

Two days later, on July 24, Chegubard claimed that the said documents had been handed over to Public Accounts Committee chairperson Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin. – July 29, 2024
