Torrential rain and thunderstorms forecasted for KL every afternoon this week

Storms to also hit inland parts of Selangor most afternoons, but dry days on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday for Petaling Jaya, Damansara and Shah Alam

9:16 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – After weeks of hot weather, Klang Valley residents should brace for more rain this week as the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecasted thunderstorms every afternoon this week for Kuala Lumpur, and for most days in parts of Selangor.

According to the MetMalaysia website, the forecast for Kuala Lumpur indicates that thunderstorms will be prevalent throughout the week until Saturday.

Current predictions suggest that while mornings are expected to be clear, heavy rain with thunderstorms are to be expected in the afternoons, with the showers tapering off by evening.

In Selangor, the forecast is also for heavy thunderstorms on most days in various areas.

Thunderstorms are anticipated in the coastal areas tomorrow morning (Monday), and in several parts of the state in the afternoon.

Most mornings in the coming week are predicted to be clear for most of Selangor, except for Wednesday when thunderstorms are expected throughout the day in several parts of the state, from morning to afternoon.

The inland regions of the state are to expect thunderstorms and heavy rain on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Among populated areas in Selangor, Petaling Jaya, Damansara and Shah Alam will have rain most days of the week in the afternoons, but are predicted to be dry on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Putrajaya is also expected to have clear mornings with thunderstorms most afternoons, expect for Tuesday and Saturday.

Malaysia is currently experiencing the La Nina phenomenon which brings wetter weather, and which peaks towards the end of the year.

The northeast monsoon season, which typically takes place in November, will also drag out the rainy season for the peninsula’s east coast until March next year. – August 11, 2024
