KUALA LUMPUR – Police have arrested a 27-year-old priest for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenager in a bedroom of a Bandar Bukit Puchong church over the course of a month.

In a statement today, Subang Jaya district police chief Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the priest will be remanded for further action, after he was arrested at a restaurant in Puchong last night.

The arrest, Wan Azlan said, came after police received a report from a local 13-year-old boy on Monday claiming that he was sexually assaulted by the priest, who works at the church.

The youth’s complaint asserted that the incidents happened between June and July this year at a bedroom in the church.

The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physical sexual assault against a child.

“Those with information on criminal activities can contact the Subang Jaya police station at 03-7862 7222 or the nearest police station,” Wan Azlan said. – August 14, 2024
