KUALA LUMPUR – The government has agreed to replace the Malaysian Remuneration Scheme (SSM) with the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), effective December 1, announced Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The prime minister says this move is a reflection of the government’s commitment to support civil servants.

“While I am eager to push for progress, I recognise the extraordinary sacrifices made by civil servants. 

“Their dedication has been remarkable – not only in combating the communist threat but also in facing challenges like Covid-19.

“We must not forget that our frontline workers are civil servants. Therefore, the government has decided to replace the SSM with the SSPA,” he said.

Anwar was speaking at the Majlis Amanat Perdana Perkhidmatan Awam this morning at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

The SSPA embodies the spirit of Civil Service Reform which must be implemented to realise the Malaysia Madani agenda, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said there are three initiatives to make a success of this reform – increasing the productivity and efficiency of the civil service, enhancing the readiness of public servants to implement changes, and improving the nation’s competitiveness. 

“I do not want there to be an assumption that we are only trying to attract interest and support from public servants. We made this decision (to implement the SSPA) because we consider it a fair decision for civil servants. 

“Therefore, the SSPA must be measured based on productivity and direct contributions to the efficiency of public servants at all levels, whether in small towns, towns or cities,” he said in his speech at the event.

He also said the government has agreed to replace the SSM with the SSPA after considering various factors and conducting prudent deliberations. – August 16, 2024
