Outdated tactic: Rafizi bins rumours of PKR ministers’ removal in cabinet reshuffle

PKR deputy says such tactics are used by opposition to harp on ‘petty issues’ as it lacks ideas to confront govt on more important matters

3:55 PM MYT

JOHOR BAHRU – Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli has rubbished speculation of a cabinet reshuffle that would reportedly see ministers from PKR dropped.

The PKR deputy president said such rumours were an “outdated tactic” by the opposition to use “petty issues” as it lacked ideas regarding more important, national issues such as the economy and governance.

“That is a lie…I think it is an outdated tactic to use political polemics to oppose us because they cannot face us on more important issues…so they use petty issues.

“I can say that during my 25 years in PKR, this is the most stable and peaceful time, no problems are coming from PKR,” Rafizi said, as reported by Bernama.”

He said this to media after being asked about a news report on a cabinet reshuffle while attending the Madani Rakyat programme for the southern zone here, today.

Last week, a news portal citing unnamed sources from PKR, said a cabinet reshuffle could take place soon and it would involve the removal of a minister from the party whose performance has been “in question”.

The minister concerned could also be moved to another portfolio, the sources said, while several deputy ministers could be in for a promotion.

Rumours of a cabinet reshuffle have been around for about the past month, following the last reshuffle in December last year which saw Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s cabinet expanding to 31 ministers from the previous 28.

During the last reshuffle, DAP’s V. Sivakumar was removed as human resources minister and replaced with fellow DAP lawmaker Steven Sim.

Responding to the latest news report, Anwar, who is PKR president, said he had no knowledge of a planned reshuffle. – August 17, 2024
