KUALA LUMPUR – Restaurant chain Two Sons Bistro said it has implemented stricter standard operating procedure (SOPs) on kitchen cleanliness and food safety following a viral video of a cockroach in food served at its outlet in Pavilion KL Mall recently. 

The stricter SOP is on top of existing ones, it said in a statement posted on social media.

“(The stricter SOP) are now being enforced across all our locations, including our central kitchen, which was also recently awarded an ‘A’ rating by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL),” Two Sons Bistro said.

The restaurant also stressed its Pavilion KL mall outlet had been inspected by the mall’s management team recently, and no issue was raised on its overall cleanliness.

The same outlet in Pavilion had also scored a 92% rating in an inspection of the Lembah Pantai health district office on August 1, it added.

However, since the viral video on August 21, the restaurant’s management has launched a thorough investigation into the outlet concerned.

It also took steps to address the affected customer, including waiving the bill and reaching out to the person twice in an attempt to “gain further insight” and to resolve the matter amicably, but had yet to receive any response from the customer.

Two Sons Bistro assured that it would prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

A video posted on X on August 21 showed a meal of eaten clams and a cockroach in the same place. In the post, user @shvnim said her friend found the cockroach and reported it to the outlet manager who apologised and waived the bill.

She also tagged the Health Ministry in her post and urged it to investigate the restaurant. – August 24, 2024
