KUALA LUMPUR – Public transport provider Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has reportedly fallen victim to a ransomware attack, several cybersecurity firms have revealed.

Cyber threat monitor FalconFeeds, a product of the cybersecurity firm Technisanct, reported that the RansomHub ransomware was used in the attack, potentially compromising 316GB of Prasarana’s data from its website prasarana.com.my.

FalconFeeds further indicated that the attackers plan to release the stolen data in seven days.

Additionally, ThreatMon Advanced Ransomware Monitoring disclosed that the attack took place yesterday at around 9pm Malaysian time.

Checks by Scoop on ransomwatch.telemetry and ransom-db.com have also listed prasarana.com.my as a victim of a ransomware attack.

At a press conference at the Transport Ministry in Putrajaya today, minister Anthony Loke said that he was only just made aware of the alleged attack.

He said further details on the matter, including a confirmation of whether an attack had occurred, will have to be secured from Prasarana itself.

Scoop has reached out to Prasarana for confirmation but has yet to receive a response. – August 26, 2024
