Integrity at stake, Muhyiddin should resign from Perikatan, Bersatu posts: Puad

Umno Supreme Council member urges former PM to follow Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s footsteps after Barisan Nasional lost in GE14

1:25 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should resign as Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman and as Bersatu president following his sedition charge today for speaking on the royal institution, an Umno leader said.

Datuk Puad Zakarshi said Muhyiddin should even emulate former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who stepped down as Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman after the coalition lost the 14th general election in 2018.

“Muhyiddin should resign…no need to use the excuse that he hasn’t been convicted. It’s about integrity.

“Muhyiddin should follow Najib who resigned when BN lost in GE14. He wasn’t even charged at the time.

“But why stay in the office with heavy baggage?” Puad, who is an Umno Supreme Council member, said on Facebook today.

Puad today said Muhyiddin faced integrity issues not just because of today’s edition charge but for corruption and abuse of power as well.

This morning, Muhyiddin claimed trial to a sedition charge in connection with a political speech made during campaigning for the recent Nenggiri by-election.

In his speech which went viral on TikTok, the former prime minister said he had the support of enough MPs to hold the post again after the 2022 general election, but was not invited by the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong to form the federal government.

More than 60 police reports were lodged against Muhyiddin for touching or 3R (race, religion, royalty) issues.

In addition to this sedition charge, the Bersatu president also is on trial for abuse of power in the Jana Wibawa scheme implemented while he was prime minister and charged with receiving illegal proceeds amounting to RM195 million from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd. – August 27, 2024
