Graft buster scrutinizes RM4bil education project awarded in 2011

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has initiated an investigation into a payment claim related to the RM4 billion 1BestariNet service tender awarded to YTL Communications Sdn. Bhd. (YTL Communications) by the Education Ministry in 2011.

Sources revealled that the MACC conducted a raid on YTL Communications’ office in Kuala Lumpur earlier today.

“As a result of the raid, several documents were seized. The MACC is currently reviewing these documents to identify witnesses who will be called in to assist with the investigation.

“The investigation focuses on the submission of documents containing false particulars related to payments amounting to approximately RM2.7 billion,” the source said.

The MACC’s investigation also extends to other criminal elements under the MACC Act 2009.

Meanwhile, MACC’s Investigation Division senior director Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

He also urged all parties to allow the MACC the necessary time and space to conduct their investigation without interference. – September 4, 2024
