Halal cert issue: Teresa Kok to give statement to police tomorrow | Scoop
According to the Malaysian Halal Certification (Domestic) Manual 2020 (MHCM 2020) on Jakim’s Halal Malaysia Portal, the department will conduct an audit on a business applying for certification. KUALA LUMPUR – Seputeh MP Teresa Kok is set to give her statement tomorrow regarding the halal certification issue at Bukit Aman, according to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

Razarudin confirmed that Kok will provide her statement at 10am at the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit, Bernama reported.

He noted that several other witnesses, including representatives from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), would also be summoned to assist in the investigation.

“Teresa Kok will be summoned to give her statement, and additional witnesses will be identified and called as needed,” he said when contacted today.

Yesterday, Razarudin revealed that the investigation into Kok’s remarks would proceed under Section 298 and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, alongside Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. 

He emphasised that the probe would adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) governing sensitive matters related to race, religion, and royalty (3R).

Earlier reports had suggested that Jakim was considering a proposal to make halal certification mandatory for restaurants and food businesses that do not serve pork or alcohol.

However, Kok has argued that enforcing such a mandate could place a heavy burden on businesses, particularly affecting thousands of Malay restaurant operators. – September 9, 2024
