Special ‘EV’ plate number bidding opens today until Sept 13 | Scoop

Special ‘EV’ plate number bidding opens today until Sept 13

Road Transport Dept also launches new ePlate designs equipped with safety standards, priced at RM98 per set

2:00 PM MYT

CYBERJAYA – The special registration number for zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) with the “EV” index is open for bidding for five days starting today via the JPJeBid system.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the bidding results for the registration numbers will be announced within 24 hours after the bidding process ends at 10pm on September 13.

He explained that the EV number plate series is exclusively for ZEVs and cannot be registered to non-ZEVs.

“ZEV owners who are not interested can still use any regular state series numbers for their vehicles.

“As previously implemented, part of the revenue from the special registration number will be channelled towards public initiatives such as the free helmet exchange programme and B2 licence training for the B40 group,” he said when launching the ePlate today, which is the new plate number designs for ZEVs.

Loke added that several new standards have been set for the new JPJePlate number plates, including enhanced visibility with retro-reflective features, anti-cloning holograms to minimise counterfeiting and theft, and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.

“This initiative is part of the government’s effort to enhance road safety, and create a new evolution in the smart Vehicle Identification System (VIS),” he said.

Following the launch of JPJePlate, Loke announced that ZEV manufacturers and distributors can start ordering the number plates on behalf of their customers from today via the jpjeplate.jpj.gov.my website.

The number plate is priced at RM98 per set, which includes the front and rear vehicle plates, one RFID sticker, and the delivery charges.

Loke said the Transport Ministry had conducted an engagement session with industry players, including the Malaysian Automotive Association and ZEV manufacturers and distributors on June 14.

“This step is aimed at ensuring that the announced initiative receives positive feedback and cooperation from all parties,” he said.

For the record, a total of 12,850 ZEVs were registered in the first six months of this year, compared to 5,131 in the same period last year. – September 9, 2024
