Sultan Ibrahim shares emotional moment with Xi Jinping, thanks China for helping late son fight cancer

YDPA expresses gratitude to China during his visit as the late Tunku Abdul Jalil Iskandar Ibrahim underwent liver transplant there

KUALA LUMPUR – Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim shared an emotional moment with China’s President Xi Jinping during a conversation yesterday regarding the monarch’s son, who passed away in 2015 following a battle with cancer.

Shedding a tear during the meeting, Sultan Ibrahim expressed gratitude to China, given that the late Tunku Abdul Jalil Iskandar Ibrahim underwent a liver transplant at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong almost 10 years ago.

According to Sin Chew Daily, Xi and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi were deeply moved by Sultan Ibrahim’s recollections of his late son.

Tunku Abdul Jalil, who was diagnosed with stage four liver cancer, was the fourth of six siblings.

Despite the successful liver transplant procedure, Tunku Abdul Jalil succumbed to his illness and passed away at the age of 25.

Meanwhile, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, who was part of the King’s delegation, said that the Chinese officials empathised with the monarch as a father who had a lot of love for his children.

Additionally, Nga also pointed out that Sultan Ibrahim revealed the possibility of the monarch having Chinese ancestry after mentioning that his great-grandmother was a woman from Guangdong named Huang Yajiao.

Xi, upon hearing Sultan Ibrahim’s revelation, immediately instructed Chinese officials to trace the King’s lineage.

Currently, Sultan Ibrahim is on a four-day state visit to China.

Celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim’s trip also marks the first state visit by a Malaysian monarch to the country in a decade. – September 10, 2024
