KUALA LUMPUR – The wife of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, Toh Puan Na’imah Khalid, has lodged a police report today following a Bloomberg exposé, accusing the government of orchestrating politically motivated investigations and fabricating charges against her husband.

In a press conference held at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters, Na’imah referenced the Bloomberg report published on September 26, which she said had vindicated her and Daim.

“It is an open secret that Daim and I have been subjected to politically motivated investigations and trumped-up charges instigated by Anwar Ibrahim.”

Na’imah claims the report confirms that Anwar has been “manipulating institutions of state and enforcement bodies,” including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), to target his political rivals.

The report suggests that Daim, former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and his family have been singled out, while Anwar’s close allies have been spared similar scrutiny.

“Last week’s Bloomberg exposé of abuse of power, conspiracy, and cover-up in the highest circles of government is another such turning point. It needs to be investigated,” Na’imah asserted, echoing the sentiments from her official press statement.

She compared the current situation to the 1MDB scandal, saying that the Bloomberg report could mark another significant moment for Malaysia’s political landscape.

Na’imah accused Anwar of using his office to settle political scores.

“Anwar has not hesitated to abuse the powers of his office to achieve his ends ever since he seized power through the notorious deal with corruption-tainted Zahid Hamidi.”

The MACC has since denied the allegations, calling them “baseless accusations.” The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) also issued a rebuttal, denying that Anwar issued any instructions to the MACC or its Chief Commissioner regarding selective investigations.

Na’imah and Daim are currently embroiled in legal proceedings, facing charges under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009 for failing to declare assets.

Na’imah, however, insists that the investigations are part of a larger conspiracy.

“Now, we want justice. We want a criminal investigation into abuse of power, conspiracy and criminal conduct by Anwar Ibrahim.” – September 30, 2024
