KUALA LUMPUR — An accident involving a trailer truck on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway this afternoon has resulted in heavy traffic congestion, with travel times from Genting Sempah to Gombak estimated at up to four hours.

Images and videos of the incident, showing the truck engulfed in flames and blocking the road, have gone viral on social media.

According to the Malaysian Highways Authority (LLM), the accident occurred at KM 27.8, heading west from Gombak towards the Gombak Toll Plaza.

All lanes are currently blocked, and traffic is at a standstill.

“All lanes are blocked. Traffic is stopped. Please use the alternative route out to Genting Sempah Junction for vehicles travelling from East to KL,” LLM announced on X.

LLM also advises the public to postpone their journey and take a break at the Genting Sempah Rest and Recreation (R&R) stop.

“Drive carefully and follow the instructions of the officers at the scene,” they urged.

The accident has caused widespread concern, particularly as it occurred just before the holiday weekend when many people were planning trips to the East Coast. — October 11, 2024
