Sand bribery scandal: MACC raids six more premises 

Four arrested, RM321,000 seized as investigation into links with influential politician intensifies

KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has raided six more premises in the Klang Valley as part of their investigation into sand concession bribery.

The raids, which took place at a residence and five office units, bring the total number of premises searched by the MACC to nine, across three separate raids.

“No premises were seized during the raids,” a source told Berita Harian.

The raids follow the discovery of foreign currency worth approximately RM5 million in an apartment on Sunday, which was allegedly used as a safe house by an influential politician.

Two suspects, including a former senior executive at Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) who is alleged to have links to the prominent politician, were arrested.

Following the raids, the MACC searched two more premises in the Klang Valley on Monday, which were also used as safe houses, and seized RM321,000 in cash.

To date, four individuals have been arrested and the MACC has taken statements from 15 witnesses.

Those arrested include a company director, a 45-year-old former senior executive at MBI, a 43-year-old former driver, and a 46-year-old former finance officer. — October 16, 2024
