Flash floods: RM600 mil for Nadma disaster prep, RM150 mil for drainage upgrade

Nadma funds include RM300 mil for immediate response, RM20 mil matching grant for GLIC, GLC foundations to intensify response, aid distribution, among others

5:41 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The government has allocated RM150 million to all local authorities (PBT) and the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) for the cleaning of drains and the dredging of rivers following the recent floods that hit the capital and other affected areas.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced this in his presentation of Budget 2025 today, along with an allocation of almost RM600 million to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma). He also stated that flood mitigation projects will be expedited in collaboration with all contractors.

“Almost RM600 million has been allocated to the Nadma in preparation for future flood disasters. This includes over RM300 million already set aside for immediate response should a disaster occur,” he said.

“A matching grant of RM20 million will be immediately provided to GLIC and GLC foundations to intensify their response and aid distribution to flood victims in affected areas,” he added.

A further RM50 million will be allocated for the cleaning and upgrading of drains and ditches to prevent the recurrence of flash floods.

“To ensure swift implementation, DID and PBT are authorised to carry out procurement up to RM1 million through quotation or bidding among registered G1 to G3 contractors,” he said. – October 18, 2024
