PUTRAJAYA – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has firmly denied claims made yesterday that RM94 million was discovered at the residence of a former minister.

In a statement, MACC clarified that its chief Tan Sri Azam Baki did not make any statements regarding the alleged RM94 million found at the former minister’s home, countering the assertion made by Pendang MP Datuk Awang Hashim during a session in the Dewan Rakyat.

“While MACC respects the rights of MPs to express their opinions freely, it is crucial that statements are grounded in accurate facts to prevent confusion,” the commission stated.

MACC also emphasised that neither the commission nor its chief commissioner has commented on any such discovery involving the former minister.

During the Dewan Rakyat session yesterday, Awang (Pendang-PN) referenced a previous case in which RM94 million was reportedly found in the home of a DAP minister, claiming that no resolution has been reached, which led to considerable uproar among attendees.

In response, Jelutong MP RSN Rayer challenged Awang to reveal the identity of the DAP leader allegedly involved in the matter within 24 hours, which the latter has yet to do.

When contacted by Scoop today, Rayer said he would raise the matter in the Dewan Rakyat again and allow Awang to retract his statement.

However, he warned that failure to do so would result in a motion against the Pendang MP. – November 5, 2024
